woombie med pod blog
When I worked as a Child Life Specialist, our training with infants told us to bring "hands over heart" to support a baby during an invasive procedure. This was a way of helping them calm. Infants love boundaries and containment. It makes them feel secure.
Recently, Barski Vail Designs received an email from a Child Life Specialist who was disheartened that her staff wasn't convinced Woombie Med Pods were a good fit for their unit. They claimed hands by the side was not developmentally appropriate and of course they're correct in this though; however, that's the beauty of swaddling with a Woombie! Our four-way stretch fabric actually allows infants to move within the swaddle and promote range of motion and flexion.
Infants begin with hands by side so the swaddle can be easily zipped, but then baby can move in the pod to bring hands to midline, hands over heart for comfort, or even hands in the air as if to signal "touchdown"!
The Woombie, the original peanut-shaped swaddle, has sold over a million and won more than 20 awards for innovation and design, including an award by the Hip Dysplasia Institute for promoting healthy hips. There's nothing more developmentally appropriate on the market (at least we think so!)
So, help us spread the word. Support the growth of Woombie Med Pods by sharing our posts, emailing staff our videos, and following us on social media. We're confident we'll be global by 2020!
